My sister, albeit less familiar with the Potterverse, was equally excited. However, despite our preparations, we encountered a few surprises along the way. 1. Book Your Tickets Early
Harry Potter’s world is enchanting, and it seems everyone wants a piece of the magic. Our spontaneous decision to visit the studio nearly backfired when we found tickets sold out for the next day. We had to wait two weeks for the next available slot. My advice? Plan ahead and secure your tickets via the official website as soon as you finalize your travel dates.
2. Go Digital with Your Ticket
Our initial plan was to conveniently download our tickets onto our smartphones. Yet, we encountered a hiccup: my sister’s ticket couldn’t be downloaded because the purchase was made using my husband’s phone number, linking the tickets directly to his account. As a result, my ticket, being the accompanying one, was readily downloadable on my phone, while my sister’s, tied to the parent ticket held by my husband’s account, faced complications. It’s a detail worth noting to avoid similar issues. Opting for a seemingly straightforward solution, we decided to print the tickets instead.
Upon arrival at the gate, however, we encountered an unexpected challenge. The staff informed us that our printed tickets were invalid due to the omission of crucial details like the date and time of our tour. This oversight was surprising to me; I had assumed the QR codes printed on the tickets would suffice for entry. In a fortunate turn of events, the digital version of the ticket on my phone, which my husband had managed to download earlier, was accepted. Even more surprisingly, the gate staff permitted both of us entry with the single digital ticket on my phone, without any further inquiries or complications. This unexpected flexibility was a relief, ensuring that our magical adventure began without further ado.
3. The Multi-Language Guide: Not Essential
Anticipating language barriers, we purchased multi-language digital guides. Mid-tour, it became evident that they were somewhat redundant. The studio’s immersive experience and the universal language of Pottermania mean you can fully enjoy the tour without additional gadgets. Save your galleons and skip the guide.
4. It’s a Museum, Not an Amusement Park
Adjust your expectations: this is no Hogwarts-themed Disneyland. The studio tour is a deep dive into the “making of” the Harry Potter films, featuring sets, costumes, and props. It’s an intricate museum with interactive elements, not a park filled with rides. If you’re after thrills, this might not be your cup of Butterbeer (see what I did there? LOL).
5. Leave Snacks and Selfie Sticks at Home
The studio is equipped with its own dining options, so outside food and drinks are a no-go. As for selfie sticks, they’re frowned upon inside due to safety concerns. But don’t worry, the studio’s enchanting backdrops are perfect for photos, and handheld cameras are welcome.
Bonus Tip: Arrive Early
To avoid a rushed start, get to the studio at least an hour before your tour. The cloakroom can get crowded, especially with visitors changing into their wizarding best. Minimize what you bring to bypass the cloakroom queue, or use the toilets for a quick change—they’re impeccably clean.
