Hotel Review: Fujizakura Inn

Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu! In Japan, that’s how we usher in the New Year with warm wishes. How was your New Year’s Eve celebration? Did you wrap up the year with any memorable journeys? Tell us about your adventures in the comments below!

As we waved farewell to 2018 and ushered in 2019, I found myself far from home. Alongside my ever-trusted travel companion, we journeyed to behold Mt. Fuji, the majestic peak that reigns as Japan’s tallest, nestled near the Pacific coast of central Honshu and a stone’s throw away from Tokyo. Stay tuned for a deeper dive into our adventure in an upcoming post. As the title hints, here are some of my reflections — perhaps unsolicited, but I hope worth your while.

We chose Fujizakura Inn with immense enthusiasm, primarily for its touted location offering splendid views of Mt. Fuji. Its proximity to home, being just about an hour and a half away, was an added bonus. And now, without keeping you in suspense any longer, here’s a snapshot I captured on our final day.

To be candid, my photo scarcely captures the full splendor of the scene. The hotel genuinely lived up to its claim, even going the extra mile by providing a platform for guests to ascend for an unparalleled view of Mt. Fuji.

Diving into the room details…

We secured our reservation via Booking.com and opted for the bunk bedroom. While Booking.com labels it as a twin room, the hotel’s own site dubs it the ‘Economy Bunk Bed’. There’s a slight discrepancy between the rate displayed on Booking.com and that on the hotel’s website. This disparity puzzled me a bit. However, upon our arrival, the receptionist honored the rate quoted by Booking.com, suggesting the hotel’s site might be overdue for an update. Regardless, the price difference was negligible.

Spanning 15 square meters, the room is furnished with a functional TV, a bidet toilet, an air-conditioner, and a charming veranda from which Mt. Fuji graces the view. The room’s size was no issue for us. Upon entry, the cleanliness and orderliness immediately caught my attention. However, my husband’s keen eye spotted an anomaly on the wall, something resembling a booger. To our amusement, I found two more on the ceiling. While unexpected, this minor oversight hardly dampened our spirits. We simply shared a chuckle over it.

There were basic amenities such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothbrush, and hairdryer.

Slippers and yukata were also provided.

Our one-night stay was delightful! Fujizakura Inn’s prime location, offering convenient access to grocery stores, pharmacies, supermarkets, post offices, diverse eateries, and prime vantage points to behold Mt. Fuji, stands as its crowning glory. Given its affordable rates and exceptional location, I wholeheartedly recommend it.

  1. One small correction: The “Having easy access to grocery stores, pharmacy, supermarket, ….” part is right if you have a car. I guess they are a little far from the hotel on foot.(Maybe around 15 minutes?)
